Slovakia and Paraguay qualified for the knock-out stage of the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup at the expense of reigning World Champions Italy.
Italy fell to an underdog sucker punch in a dull game that turned on its head in the last 15 minutes. Slovakia led 1-0 for most of the game. They extended the lead but Italy pulled one back shortly.
Italy had a ball cleared off the line and a goal was disallowed for off-side. Slovenia extended the lead to 3-1 but Italy gave themselves hope with a beautiful cheeky goal.
The disgraced and aged Italians sobbed as if they found the match over, but they toyed around until they were in deep trouble. Paraguay got their spot in the tourney from a 0-0 draw with New Zealand.
New Zealand surely leave the 2010 FIFA World Cup with so much pride having amassed 3 points without losing any match. On the contrary, the over-rated Italians, who should dragged their German counterparts, showed what fluke champions they always were. It is likely Germany will follow them soon anyway.
