The Netherlands Reach Historic Final Beating Uruguay 3-2.

Holland 3, Uruguay 2.

African people rejoiced at the relegation of Uruguay to play for the wooden spoon when the South Americans were beat by the Netherlands. Uruguay beat Bafana Bafana in an ill-fated game at Loftus and cheated Ghana with a Suarez hand ball in the last seconds of a quarter-final injury time.

Uruguay started well getting the better of the possession into the attacking 3rd, being caught offside several times, normally incorrectly. They played a 1-4-3-2-1 formation, with Diego Forlan the front man. Personally, this was an error by the coach, as Forlan had been a thorn in the flesh coming from midfield first before reverting to a striking position.

The Dutch came back slowly and playing numerous crosses into the prime target area from the left. They tried to get their game rhythm imposed on the South Americans without any success. The Europeans who relied on a 1-4-2-3-1, formation, came right against the run of play when captain Van Bronkhorst scored the goal of the World Cup so far, in the 18th minute.

Holland took control of the proceedings after the goal with Robin van Persie and Arjen Robin prominent in attack. They folded back into a 1-4-4-2. This attracted the Uruguayans forward into the attacking positions, and could have got 2 penalties from a more generous official.

Diego Forlan, in the 41st minute, scored a long drive curling shot past a bemused goalkeeper. He collected a pass in midfield beating a defender and letting go a curling shot from distance. Like the Dutch, they seemed content with the goal, retreating and inviting the trouble from the Netherlands.

The second half began with the Dutch dominating the midfield , new substitute Van der Waadt, enjoying a good run. Uruguay came out trouble slowly and began to create chances of their own.

Wesley Sniejder scored a suspiciously offside goal with a deflected shot, 20 minutes to full-time. The Dutch had commanding possession before the goal, passing the ball left to right and left again finding Sneijder.

Arjen Robin, who had a good game, was not to be outdone, slotting a free header from Dirk Kuyt into the lower corner 3 minutes later, beating the goalkeeper hands down. Robin was replaced by my other favourite player, stylish Elia, in end of the game.

Perreira had the last say when a quickly taken free-kick was first-touched to him and he calmly bended the ball around the Dutch goalkeeper in injury time.
