The Siya crew has been informed that the 2012/2013 edition of the PSL will be the final time that the league will begin in August.
There have long been calls for the Absa Premiership to revert to their old schedule of playing out their season from February to November and it now appears that the calls have been answered.
A Siya source explained, “This is the last season where the league will start in August and end in May.”
This will mean that the PSL will no longer face a lengthy mid-season break due to the African Cup of Nations and it is also believed that it will benefit South African teams playing on the continent in tournaments such as the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup.
The August to May season that is currently in place is one that is employed by most European leagues, however it is thought that a change of date would be beneficial to both Bafana Bafana and South African clubs. By Sbue ,
