STEELY Highlanders defender and captain Innocent Mapuranga, received his first national team call-up yesterday, which he believes was long overdue and if given a chance to play, he will fully utilise the opportunity and repay coach Rahman Gumbo’s trust in him.
Newly appointed Warriors’ substantive coach, Gumbo, named a 24 member squad that will face African Champions Zambia in an international friendly at the newly built Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, on 8 August.
The new technical team will also take charge of the Four Nation tournament in Uganda which will give coaches ample time to assemble a strong team to face Angola in September in the final qualifying round for the Nations Cup which will be held in South Africa next year.
The squad has three of Mapuranga’s teammates; goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, left back Bruce Kangwa and midfielder Peter Moyo.
Other new faces in the squad include Chicken Inn midfielder Danny Phiri as well as Bufalloes’ Prosper Matizanadzo.
