eal Madrid had no sympathy for their former midfielder David Beckham, as they mercilessly dismantled his LA Galaxy team in a pre-season friendly early this morning.
Los Blancos ignited into superb pre-season form, smashing five goals past their hosts at the Home Depot Centre.
The match ended 5-1, with Beckham having made the assist for Junior Lopes’ consolation strike.
Gonzalo Higuain informed the Galaxy of the meteor storm headed their way, by converting Angel Di Maria’s pass in just the second minute of the match.
And a few minutes later, Di Maria got his own name on the scoresheet with a vicious shot.
Lopes then bundled his effort home to make it 2-1. But Real responded with a move of sheer class, stringing together one of the counter-attacks that made them impossible to stop when they hit their stride last season, with Jose Maria Callejon on hand to finish it off.
The second stanza belonged to Real’s second stringers, with Alvaro Morata and Alex Fernandez scoring to get their names in the limelight in front of 30, 317 fans- a record for the Home Depot Centre.
After the match, during which most of Real’s stars- including Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema- got the chance to stretch their legs, coach Jose Mourinho was satisfied with the “training session.”
“Galaxy is a kind of team that is not too worried about losing, 4-1 or losing 1-0,” he said.
“They’re just worried about playing, playing well. Play their game, let us play and, at this moment of the season, it’s the most important thing for us.” By Sbue
