TN 8 Quarter-Final
Date: 5 August 2012
Result: Moroka Swallows 2-0 AmaZulu
Venue: Dobsonville Stadium
Moroka Swallows booked their place in the semi-finals of the MTN8 after an impressive 2-0 win over AmaZulu at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors enjoyed the first chance of the game in the fourth minute as Goodman Dlamini got onto the end of a cross from the left but his header flew well wide.
The Dube Birds were pushing forward but wasted a succession of corners while Lefa Tsustsulupa fired a free-kick straight into the wall in the 14th minute.
Both sides were putting in some rough challenges early on which saw the game stopped on numerous occasions but Ayanda Dlamini would go close next when he beat the Greg Etafia to the ball but lifted his shot over the crossbar.
Tsutsulupa then tested Tapuwa Kapini with a shot in the 26th minute before Bongani Mbhele saw his strike slide just over the crossbar.
The opening goal would arrive in the 33rd minute when Lerato Chabangu met a cross to the far post and smashed his volley home.
Swallows cried for a penalty two minutes later when Bennett Chenene seemed to have been brought down by Mxolisi Mayonga but the referee waved away the appeals.
Chenene missed out on another chance to double their advantage before the break when he ran onto a terrific long pass from Tsutsulupa but he was unable to bend his shot past Kapini.
Kagiso Senamela could have drawn level on the stroke of half-time but his curling free-kick came back off the woodwork and the rebound was cleared.
The Dube Birds searched for a second after the interval and Chenene would send an audacious overhead kick just wide before Chabangu saw his 57th mminute strike deflected wide.
Their pressure would pay off in the 63rd minute when Siyabonga Nomvethe nodded home another great cross into the area from Chabangu.
Swallows were flying and Chabangu cracked a shot over the crossbar after Nomvethe tried to return the favour three minutes later.
Etafia almost gifted Usuthu a goal in the 72nd minute when he spilled Marc van Heerden’s free-kick but the ball crept just wide of the post.
Bongani Mbhele whistled a shot over the bar in the 80th minute moments after Goodman Dlamini had sent an effort past the upright.
Swallows almost sealed the win with two minutes to go through Chenene but after bursting through, his strike bounced back off the post.
No more goals were on the cards though as Swallows saw out the win to secure their place in the next round.
